The Greenock Scout Association’s Corlic Pipe Band, 1971. I heard them play several times that year. (They became The Greenock District Scout Pipe Band in 1972)
A pipe tune written for me, "Miss Jane Edney" (as I was then) in 1971. I heard the band play it a couple of times but don't have a recording, which is a pity.Local pipe band history:

ReplyDeleteAlso meant to say that Tom Cuffe started to learn the pipes as a member of the boy scouts, from Alec McKay,pipe major of the Corlic Pipe Band also pictured in your blog and ended up playing in Grade 1 with The Red Hackle.

Thanks John, I knew Alec quite well and also his nephew Robert and some other members of the family, through my great-aunt Gwen. I heard the Corlic Pipe Band a few times but the Red Hackle (and your brother Tom) only that one time I went to the Cowal Games.

DeleteAhhh Tommy, I knew Alec McKay, Charlie McCready well, Ronnie McFadyen and I were great friends and Ronnies brother Jimarried my sister (both drum majors in the Corlic Pipe band circa 1962) We met whilst they were on camp in Scarborough, my grandad, , a decorated WWI veteran inspected the camp and our house acted as a sick bay. Dad was upset when they couldnt play one church parade because they had vellum head rope tensioned drums and bought them a set of plastic head screw tensioned drums.
